Product description

While we get by with one sun in our solar system, there are planets that have two suns. A reverie that invites philosophising, and what better way to ponder than over a hot cup of tea?

First-class tea is characterised by its unique aroma. In order for this to unfold in the best possible way, you need the right tea set. We meet this need with this tea bowl (Jap. Chawan), which is handmade on the potter's wheel. It is lovingly crafted according to the Asian model, including the firing technique. For this, the old Japanese raku technique was used, in which the yellow glowing ceramics are lifted out of the kiln at approx. 1000 °C with heavy iron tongs! The tea bowl was then placed in sawdust, which ignited immediately. Soot, fire and ash now smoulder around the tea bowl. From this point on, the process can no longer be controlled and chance takes over! The fire does not release its treasures easily and despite the most careful cleaning, the smell of soot and fire has not yet completely dissipated.

The tea bowl has a wobble-free and stable base. It is not 100% waterproof, which is due to the raku technique. Due to the suspended matter in the tea, the few still open channels sinter and quickly seal the tea bowl. This tea bowl is not for people who down their tea, it is something for connoisseurs!

The tea bowl weighs approx. 190 g, which is relatively little for a vessel of this size/function. It is about 7 cm high and has a diameter of about 7.5 cm at the top. The filling volume is about 250 mL.

Due to the technique, fire and coincidence, each Raku tea bowl is a unique piece that invites you to philosophise and enjoy!
