Product description

Blue is fighting its way through the dense cloud cover and the sun is about to come out! This moment of anticipation was captured in this Japanese tea bowl. The joyful character continues throughout it, because it was created using the Japanese raku technique. Raku means joy, and this is exactly what you get when you drink tea from this chawan (Japanese for tea bowl). The technique is rarely used in Europe because of its danger. In raku, the ceramics are taken out of the kiln at about 1000 °C and placed in beechwood chips - a critical moment because these chips ignite instantly! The soot and ash have created a unique craquelé pattern on the white surface of the handmade tea bowl. This black craquelé is also the distinguishing feature of raku ceramics!

Despite the most careful cleaning, the smell of soot and fire has not yet completely disappeared, because the fire does not release its treasures so easily!

The tea bowl has a wobble-free and stable base. It is not yet 100% waterproof, which is due to the raku technique. Due to the suspended matter in the tea, the few open channels sinter and quickly seal the tea bowl. This tea bowl is not for people who down their tea, it is something for connoisseurs!

The tea bowl weighs approx. 190 g, which is relatively little for a vessel of this size/function. It is about 7.5 cm high and has a diameter of about 8.5 cm at the top. The filling volume is about 250 mL.Blue is fighting its way through the dense cloud cover and the sun is about to come out! This moment of anticipation was captured in this Japanese tea bowl.
