At the latest four weeks before Christmas, the time has come - the Advent wreath is lit and the first decorative ceramics are set up. The Advent wreath belongs to the older traditions and has its origin in the Evangelical Lutheran North Germany. In 1839 a theologian set up an Advent wreath for the children in the near neighbourhood. He wanted to make waiting in the beginning industrial age more pleasant for them and lit a candle on a wreath on each of the four last Sundays before Christmas. It then took almost another hundred years until the children in Catholic Germany were able to enjoy the radiant tradition.
