Product description

The basis of this cute little bowl is the Japanese raku technique. Here, the ceramics are taken out of the kiln at over 1000 °C and placed in sawdust. Not all ceramics can withstand the temperature drop of 1000 °C and will break during raku.

In order not to discard these tea bowls and Hohins, the Japanese established the Kintsugi technique many centuries ago. The shards are classically glued with gold. The small Raku bowl was glued with gold epoxy glue, thus breathing new life into it.

The bowl is turned by hand on the turntable and a modelled foot is carved out of it. The bowl was then covered with a blue glaze and accentuated with a white highlight on the outside. These two colours form a beautiful contrast to the golden colour of the Kintsugi in the finished bowl.

The haptically appealing glaze of the bowl fits the shape perfectly - handy and organic. The glossy golden colour of Kintsugi is a subtle contradiction. It is smooth, even and exposed at the seam. The bowl has cracked into three shards in the raku and has a large chipping on the inside. All three pieces have been neatly joined together and the flake has been completely filled with golden expoxy. In this way two old Japanese techniques are used and something new is created.

Due to the metamorphosis of Kintsugi, the bowl has outgrown the tea. Instead, it can be used as a decorative element and curious eye-catcher on the chest of drawers. In this way, it serves as Wide Poche, keeping change and the keys ready until we need them again. Alternatively, the small bowl can also be used as a pot for small plants such as a cactus.

Its weight is about 70 g. It is about 5.5 cm high and 8 cm wide at the opening.
