red tea bowl from the Raku firing - fire!

Fire! This dreaded and impressive elemental force creates Raku ceramics. In the Japanese Raku technique, the ceramics are taken out of the kiln at 1000 °C, glowing yellow - risky and dangerous!

This tea bowl (Chawan) shows as a shining unique specimen its fiery origin. The orange lines of the glaze run like firebreaks through the silky black of the outside. The world in flames! To remove the remaining remains of the burnt "world", the tea bowl was cleaned with a rough sponge. Despite the most careful cleaning, the smell of soot and fire has not yet completely disappeared.

Like all Japanese Raku tea bowls, it is not 100% waterproof, which is due to the technique itself. Due to the suspended matter contained in the tea, the few still open channels sinter and quickly seal the Chawan. In raku, calm is essential and exactly this healing calm is urgently needed. This tea bowl is not for people who rush down their tea, it is something for connoisseurs!

The tea bowl weighs about 200 g, which is relatively little for a vessel of this size/function. It is approx. 7 cm high and has a diameter of 9.5 cm at the upper edge. The filling volume is > 270 mL.
