Product description

The Japanese artist Hokusai created the series of "36 Views of Mount Fuji" in the 1830s. This well-known motif is one of the most beautiful in the series. In memory of Hokusai, this unique picture print of the holy mountain was captured in the Raku vase!

Thundering waves, churning ocean - wildness! This unique Raku Vase reflects the unrestrained violence of the oceans, but it was created by a completely different force. The Raku Vase was made by hand on the potter's wheel and finished cleanly. It was then given its structure and the foaming waves were worked out. The wild waves were then given an azure raku glaze and the vase was brought to life in the fire of the raku firing. This old Japanese firing technique was deliberately chosen as a tribute to the motif - a magical marriage of the Japanese! In the Raku technique, the 1000 °C hot ceramics are taken out of the fire and packed in sawdust to smoulder - the technique is as dangerous as the motif! The velvety black of the soot forms an enchanting contrast to the bright blue glaze of the waves. The lifelike effect was achieved by a special form of application and the whole beauty of the Raku vase was brought out in the fire. This unique piece is an eye-catcher in every room due to its unique history of creation and inspires with its harmonious form and organic feel. The typical Japanese waves of the Raku Vase adapt themselves easily and contrast the archaic background. Just like the original, the contradiction of the motif polarizes the viewer!

The Raku Vase weighs 1 kg and is about 16 cm high. At the belly it has a diameter of about 16 cm.

The immense forces acting on the ceramics during the Raku technique have taken their toll on this piece. The vase has a crack through it and is therefore only suitable as a purely decorative vessel.
