Product description

Cheerful, colourful, spherical! That's the first thing that comes to mind when looking at this cute raku tea light set. The beautiful bright colours and the organic black exterior create a nice contrast. As eye-catchers, the four handmade tea lights should not be missing on any table. Especially with a candle in the ball, the colours start to glow and are a shining highlight at dusk and night.

All four balls were turned and shaped by hand on the potter's wheel. While the inside is cleanly worked, the outside has been left organically vibrant. So the balls are also haptically appealing and invite tactile discoveries. Thanks to their shape, the raku tea lights can be placed anywhere and arranged in ever new ways - a clever detail! The large opening makes it easy to insert and remove tea lights as well as pillar and table candles.

The set was glazed by hand and meticulous care was taken to ensure that as little glaze as possible touches the outside. After all, the outside is reserved for raku. Raku is an ancient Japanese firing technique and is firmly anchored in Japanese culture. In raku, the ceramics, which are heated to over 1000 degrees Celsius, are taken from the kiln, glowing yellow, with heavy iron tongs and placed in beechwood chips. These ignite instantly due to the immense heat and flames, soot and ash colour the surfaces silky black. As the technique is quite elaborate and also very dangerous, it is not very widespread in Europe - but this does not detract from its popularity.

The handmade set weighs approx. 520 g (approx. 130 g / ball) and each ball has a diameter of approx. 8 cm and is approx. 6 cm high. The diameter of the opening is about 4 cm. As Raku is born of fire, the ceramics smell a little of soot and smoke at first. However, the smell dissipates quite quickly and leaves behind an enchanting piece of handicraft!
