Product description

Japanese tea bowls (jap. Chawan) are traditionally made using the carving technique. This includes the high foot ring with a water drain. This high ring at the bottom makes the tea bowl especially comfortable to grip and hold in your hands. When looking at it, it also looks as if it is floating and because of its lightness it is breathed in.

The structured outside with its seven sides serves as a contrast to the clay used. It is very organic and haptic therefore an experience. The surface is rough, but not sharp-edged or unpleasant on the hands. It conveys life and positive restlessness, almost anticipation! With this unique piece, the major part of the outside was left unglazed to let the clay used have its effect. Only a single trace of glaze stretches along the outside and invites you to follow it!

Traditionally the Chawan is used for drinking green tea. For thousands of years Japan has developed its own tea culture for this purpose, which then culminated in the establishment of the tea ceremony.
In this Chawan ground green tea (Matcha) can be prepared with a bamboo broom. The strong green colour has a particularly appealing effect on the silky matt black inside.

The tea bowl is made of stoneware (high fired ceramics) and like everything in the ceramic cartel, it has a food safe glaze. It can be washed in the dishwasher and put in the microwave. The tea bowl weighs 310 g when empty and has a filling volume of 250 mL. It is about 8 cm high and 9 cm wide at the opening.
