Product description

Organic structure in an inorganic environment - this is traditional Japanese ceramics. This old philosophy was applied in the manual production of this tea bowl (jap. Chawan) and has given it a unique appearance. The tea bowl has been lovingly made using the build-up technique and individually reworked using the carving technique. A roaring wave was worked into the outside of the tea bowl - it gives the Chawan a direction and is a haptic change on the otherwise smooth surface. The wave is a part of the "Great Wave of Kanagawa". This old work of art with its striking wave was created by the Japanese artist Hokusai. He published the series "36 Views of Mount Fuji" at the beginning of the 19th century. Matching the wave, ocean green streaks run across the surface of the tea bowl and take the viewer on an exciting journey of discovery!

Traditionally the Chawan is a tea bowl used for the preparation and consumption of Matcha tea. It is a central component of Japanese tea culture. Its shape, imperfect and asymmetrical to European eyes, brings the Chawan to life. They underline its uniqueness, the individuality of each bowl. The light green colour of Matcha tea looks particularly harmonious in this tea bowl.

Due to the traditional production the tea bowl has a small wobble-free foot and lets the water run off cleanly on the outside. The tea bowl is made of stoneware (high fired ceramics) and like everything else in the ceramic cartel, it has a food safe glaze. It can be washed in the dishwasher and put in the microwave. The tea bowl weighs 230 g when empty and has a filling volume of 220 mL. It is about 7 cm high and 10 cm wide at the opening.
