The inspiration for the Raku Cake Etagere comes from a love of tricky things! The old Japanese Raku technique is not very common in Europe because of its dangerousness. This is because the ceramics are lifted out of the kiln at over 1000 degrees Celsius with one metre long iron tongs with proven teeth. Then the yellow glowing ceramics are placed in beech wood shavings. These ignite instantly and a smouldering fire results, which covers everything unglazed in a silky matt black.

The handmade Raku cake stand holds cakes with a diameter of up to 26.5 cm. Due to its filigree workmanship (1.1 kg), the ceramic in the sawdust caused a stress crack in the plate. The ceramic is then still stable, but sounds a bit dull.
